The Beach was a brand new theatre game, commissioned by National Theatre Wales in partnership with Hide&Seek. National Theatre Wales asked three leading young artists to create a new outdoor gaming event for the beaches of North Wales.

The Beach was played along the Prestatyn seafront, from 27 July to 1 August. It invited players to think about the people in their 20s and 30s who had moved away from Prestatyn and left the town with a “missing generation”. Players explored the history of Prestatyn in games moderated by local residents, and constructed a hypotetical “Prestatyn attraction” to draw the missing generation back, while at the same time reflecting on their own home towns.

Hide&Seek co-created the game design with the NTW artists, and mentored them in the process of creating, testing, developing and executing a large-scale game.
